Fattoria Petrolo Toscana Torrione 2004
E-mail this item from WebWine.comFattoria Petrolo Toscana Torrione 2004 Torrione is made entirely from pure Sangiovese grapes, both those that come from historic vines of the 70s and ones more recently planted with high density. The yield per plant is notably restricted (max 2.5 lbs per vine plant), allowing a concentration of all the noble components of the grape, fundamental for the full-bodied character of this wine. The maceration on the skins lasts for 14 days. Afterwards, the malolactic fermentation takes place, partly in French barrels of 225 liters and partly in 30 Hl oak barrels. The wine then is aged in French oak barriques, one third new, for approximately 15 months. Wine Spectator Plenty of blackberry and currant bush aromas. Intense. Full-bodied and very chewy, with ripe tannins and a long, powerful finish. A structured Sangiovese. Like the 2001 or better. Best after 2008. Score: 93. —James Suckling, October 31, 2006.Wine Advocate The 2004 Torrione, a dark ruby, opens with suggestions of freshly cut roses, spices and a hint of white truffle. Fresh and vibrant, this medium-bodied 100% Sangiovese offers plenty of fruit with outstanding length and fine tannins on the finish. The 2004 is a more linear expression than the rounder 2003 and will require another year or two in bottle to drink at its finest. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2016. Score: 91. —Antonio Galloni,
