Hope Estate

Appearance: Inky dark red with a purple hue. Aroma: Lifted generous blackberry characters with both white and black pepper. Bouquet: The oak fermentation and maturation have enhanced the peppery and spicy characters of the wine. While the open ferments have increased the fruit intensity there is an upfront oak leading to intriguing complexity. Palate: Huge berry fruit, spicy nutmeg and chocolate characters fill the palate. The oak is well balanced with acidity leading to a long finish of persistent fruit, fine grained tannins and cool climate mintyl notes.

Wine Enthusiast

A nicely balanced red. It’s not the richest, deepest wine out there, but it does offer plenty of red plum and raspberry flavors, framed by vanilla-scented oak. It’s reasonably long on the finish, too, where the wine picks up attractive cedary accents.

Score: 87. —Joe Czerwinski, November 15, 2007.
