Domaine Louis Michel

Lemon/lime nose and also on the palate. Very vibrant and floral with a bit of hyacinth. lots of butter-scotch and caramel, too. The wine is very exotic with some passion fruit and pineapple. The finish is explosive with sugared pink grapefruit.

Wine Advocate

The vines here, incidentally, range all the way from 30-60 years in age, and there is a similar age spread in the acreage that informs Michel’s 2006 Chablis Grenouilles (tasted not long before bottling). White peach, purple plum, and brown spices inform the nose. On the palate this offers a broad, rich, admirably concentrated reflection of grand cru terroir, with overtly chalky mineral expression but lacking the complexity or interplay of the Vaudesir. I suspect it would be worth following for 5-7 years. The 2005, too, proved less exciting than its two grand cru siblings. Score range: 89-90+

Score: 90. —David Schildknecht, October 2008.
