Santa Ema

Color: Deep, bright red. Aroma: Classic and elegant, with aromas of red fruits, prunes, and cherries that blend with notes of tobacco and vanilla that lend great complexity. Palate: Intense and well-structured with ripe tannins. A mouthfilling wine with tremendous fruit expression that is reflected in the ample and long finish. Pairing Suggestion: Drink with ripe cheeses, beef, stews, and well-seasoned dishes. Also ideal with pork with plum sauce.

Wine Advocate

The flagship 2008 Catalina is composed of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Carmenere, and 7% Cabernet Franc aged 14 months in new French oak. The fruit was sourced from low yields of only 1.6 tons per acre. Notions of pain grille, pencil lead, exotic spices, incense, black currant, and blackberry set the stage for a structured, plush, nicely proportioned Blend that will benefit from an additional 2-3 years of cellaring. It has a drinking window extending from 2014 to 2023.

Score: 90. —Jay Miller, February 2012.

Wine Spectator

Ripe, juicy and well-defined, featuring nicely integrated tobacco, roasted herb, black currant and cherry fruit, which carries through the sleek, mouthwatering finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2013.

Score: 90. —James Molesworth, October 15, 2011.
