Erath

Layered and complex, this Pinot invites you to linger and explore. The first swirl reveals warm fragrances of sandalwood, rising bread dough and graham that later also reveal hints of mint and aromatic carnation. A sweet entry of framboise yields to a silky mouthful of cherry, root-beer and baking spice. The lingering finish leaves a soothing vanilla-infused impression. A superb match with rosemary glazed duck, foie gras, suckling pork chop, or Boeuf Bourginon.

Wine Enthusiast

Lush and luscious, this is a standout among the 2009 Erath Pinots. The richness of the fruit gives this zaftig wine immense appeal, with deep cherry flavors streaked with gun metal, anise, mocha, and coffee. A lick of dark chocolate ensures a glorious finish.

Score: 94. —Paul Gregutt, March 01, 2012.

Wine Spectator

Polished, with a light burr of tannins around a juicy and distinctive core of red berry, beef carpaccio and floral flavors, persisting impressively on the finish. Best from 2013 through 2019.

Score: 91. —Harvey Steiman, October 31, 2011.

Wine Advocate

The 2009 Pinot Noir Prince Hill exhibits aromas of cedar, underbrush, spice box, cherry, and boysenberry. In the glass it opens to reveal a velvety texture, succulent flavors, and a sense of elegance. Nicely balanced, concentrated, and lengthy, it will provide pleasure from 2012 to 2019.

Score: 90. —Jay Miller, October 2011.
