Louis Roederer

Brut Premier is the incarnation of the Louis Roederer style, and combines the fruitiness and freshness of youth with the vinosity of fully mature wines. It is a structured and fully bloomed wine, with a lively attack and a smooth palate. It is a gilded color, with fine bubbles and a nose of fresh fruit and hawthorn. A smooth and complex palate, with mingling fruit flavors of pear and apple, and red fruits of blackberry, raspberry and cherry, with notes of toast and almonds. A pleasurable wine, smooth and open. Food Pairing: Brut Premier is an excellent aperitif Champagne that readily accompanies light fish dishes.

Wine Advocate

The NV Brut Premier is a gorgeous wine that stands head and shoulders above the vast majority of wines in its price range. Apparently, it is quite possible to make great Champagne that doesn't cost a small fortune. Ripe pears, smoke, spices, dried flowers and herbs are some of the many nuances that emerge from the glass. The Brut Premier shows lovely mid-palate depth and fabulous overall balance. Chef de Caves Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon has done it again. This is a fabulous Brut Premier. The Brut Premier is based on the 2007 vintage, with approximately 20% 2006 wines and 10% older reserves going back to 1996. The blend is approximately 40% Pinot Noir, 20% Pinot Meunier and 20% Chardonnay. About 50% of the base wines underwent malolactic fermentation. Dosage is 9-10 grams per liter. This is Lot # L034638B102206. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2015.

Score: 92. —Antonio Galloni, November 2011.

Wine Enthusiast

This Roederer nonvintage seems to be getting drier, bringing out more of the green fruits and less creamy character. It works well here because the wine has some bottle age, giving a beautifully balanced wine that has great class and elegance.

Score: 92. —Roger Voss, December 01, 2007.

International Wine Cellar

Fresh lemon and lime zest on the nose, plus a hint of white pepper adding energy. Tightly wound and focused, with energetic citrus and orchard fruit flavors underscored by dusty minerals. Nicely balanced and pure, with very good finishing citric bite and persistence. This leads more with finesse than with power today, which suits me fine.

Score: 90.

Wine Spectator

A delicate Champagne, with spring blossom, smoke, yellow apple and anise flavors set on a fine-grained texture. The moderate finish is fresh and juicy, with the smoky note lingering. Better than previously reviewed. Drink now through 2019. 42,000 cases imported.

Score: 90. —Alison Napjus, June 15, 2011.
