Enrico Santini Montepergoli 2001
Color is an intense red with a smoky black - violet hue ; the nose is clean, focused, with notes of ripe dark fruits ( blackberries, black currants, black plums ) accompanied by a slight hint of toasted oak. On the palate the wine has great intensity and harmony; it is rich with layers of flavours, concentrated with generous tannins which are well integrated contributing to its elegance, freshness and length. Wine Advocate "The 2001 Bolgheri Rosso Montepergoli, just as in the 2000 vintage, is one of the best wines of the entire appellation. Very deep and brilliant in color, its amply-spiced nose and powerfully expansive aromas of smoky creme de cassis and plums is followed by rich, layered flavors of perfectly ripe berry fruit, tar, river gravel, and cedar, and is lush, dense, and very long. The appearance of this excellent new producer in Bolgheri last year was of the most pleasant surprises of the entire Tuscan coast, and this year's wines are even better. Drink: 2005-2020. Score: 93. —Daniel Thomases, April 2004.Wine Spectator Lots of roast beef and funk here with ripe fruit in the nose. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, caressing finish. A bit funky but I like it. This has a lot going on here. Small, hot producer from Bolgheri. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Sangiovese. Best after 2006. 1,200 cases made.
