Louis Roederer

Brilliant yellow colour with subtle golden-green highlights and a constant stream of ultra-fine but remarkably persistent bubbles. Rich, heady nose, opening with a refined, concentrated bouquet of crystallised citrus, followed by scents of white fruits (pears) roasted hazelnuts and cocoa. The aromas are smooth and precise – beautifully judged with not a trace of heaviness. The texture on the palate is fleshy, generous and silky-satisfyingly mouth-filling, with a creaminess punctuated by discreet effervescence. Succulent flavors of nuts, ripe pears, caramel and tarte Tatin are perfectly balanced by the freshness and energy that come from natural fruit acidity. The overall impression is of an impressively harmonious, subtle champagne. Poised between finesse and vinous balance, Louis Roederer’s Blanc de Blancs offers that subtle, refined expression characteristic of Chardonnay fruit from Grand Cru Champagne vineyards: fresh, creamy, precise and taut.

Wine Enthusiast

A rich Chardonnay, full of white fruits and the merest touch of toast and yeast. It is ripe, full in the mouth, but never loses sight of pure elegance. A great success in balancing freshness and richness from this hot vintage.

Score: 95. —Roger Voss, December 01, 2010.

Wine Spectator

Very fresh, exuding aromas of graphite and pencil shavings followed by ripe peach, grapefruit and mineral notes. Vinous in character, with a vibrant structure and a long finish. A terrific 2003. Drink now through 2020.

Score: 92. —Bruce Sanderson, December 15, 2009.

Wine Advocate

The 2003 Brut Blanc de Blancs is another terrific Champagne from Roederer. Here the heat of the torrid vintage is beautifully balanced by the wine’s minerality. A soft finish rounds out this caressing, creamy Champagne. I don’t see the 2003 Blanc de Blancs making old bones, but it should drink very nicely for at least a few years. The wine’s overall balance is impeccable. A spring frost followed by wilting heat throughout the summer yielded especially concentrated fruit, yet the wine’s sense of harmony is superb. 25% of the wine was fermented in oak. This is Lot L031587E100459, disgorged in June, 2008. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2018.

Score: 91. —Antonio Galloni, December 2009.
