A bold, forward style, with plush, lightly mulled plum, boysenberry and açaà berry flavors pumping along, backed by light apple and anise accents that add detail through the finish. Big, but has the energy for balance. Best from 2021 through 2028. 11,000 cases made.

Made by former Beaulieu winemaker Joel Aiken, this value-minded wine is high toned, has a leathery grip and bursts with blue fruit. Bright acidity livens the midpalate of full-bodied weight and ripeness, finishing in a swirl of nutmeg, clove and toasted oak.

Damp earth, leafy herbs, leather, and black cherry notes emerge from the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon, which has a Bordeaux-like vibe, medium body, good acidity, and a clean finish. It has plenty of charm as well as purity, and I suspect it will keep for a decade.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon features vague notions of stewed plums and baked blackberries with hints of charcoal, tobacco leaf and scorched earth. Medium-bodied, the palate is a little hollow with chewy tannins and straightforward black fruit preserves flavors, finishing earthy.
